Spring Maintenance Checklist

January 13, 2020

As the days become longer and the temperatures rise, Spring is a great time to give your home a refresh and physical checkup. Living in a maintenance-free community has many perks—no need to worry about mowing the lawn, trimming the shrubs or shoveling the driveway. But, there are items that are the homeowner’s responsibility. Be sure to do the following to keep your home in tip-top shape.

  • Turn on the sprinkler system.
A how-to manual came with your home, but ask a neighbor or call the vendor directly for help if you don’t feel comfortable doing this yourself. At Glen Meadows, we used Rainbow Sprinklers and Lawncare.
  • Wash windows and screens inside and out.
Clean out all the dust and dirt that has collected over the past few months and make sure there are no holes in the screens.
  • Change the furnace filter.
This step is especially crucial in the first year in your new home, to minimize dust accumulation. A dirty filter forces your HVAC system to work harder.
  • Clean gutters and downspouts.
Make sure the gutter pathways are clear so they function properly.
  • Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
This is a great habit to get into to make sure the batteries are working.
  • Open windows to circulate clean air into the house.
Open the windows and switch out the stale air in the house!
  • Water plants.
Make sure to nurture your new plants and shrubs with water. There is a guide from our landscaper in your Warranty Binder.

My wife and I moved into Cedar Pointe in January 2020. We sold our home in Lake George and were looking in the Saratoga region for a smaller home that would accommodate our needs, as we are both retired. This is our fifth home and we had a good idea how the building process works. We drove through the Cedar Pointe development and were immediately drawn to this area because of the style of homes being built and this secluded area that is close to everything we need. We stopped at the model home and recognized the quality of the construction and the layout of the home and made our decision then to contract with Abele builders. We worked with Maureen and Phyllis during the design process and laid out our ideas about the construction and interior design. Moe and Phyllis were delightful to work with and made this a seamless process. We are very pleased with the home and the entire process with Abele.
